Well, I can’t necessarily take all the credit, but someone at the White House is apparently fed up with flip flops slapping their way through the East Room.
Along with other articles of questionable clothing, like shorts, tee shirts, jeans, and sneakers, they are now officially banned from the executive mansion. It’s about time!
You may recall that I wrote about this a little while back. I would certainly like to think that some presidential aide, maybe the man himself, came across OffTheCuffDC and saw the light. This new ban covers tour groups, general White House visitors and even the press. It’s a big deal, definitely for all those school groups roaming around the city, but a positive change none the less.
I mean, this is the White House we’re talking about. No matter who’s living there you should show the proper respect due to such an important place. Do you really expect some 15 year-old in flip-flops, a ratty Hollister tee shirt, and jeans dragging on the floor to appreciate the cultural, historical and political importance of the White House if no one even makes him clean up for a day? We were all 15 once and I think we all know that answer.
My only pause is that this would also put the kibosh on nice dark jeans paired with dress shoes, a french cuffed shirt, and blazer; perfectly natty and very appropriate. So it goes; that will just be cross that the well-dressed of DC will have to bear.
Now the next question, when will the House and Senate show some sartorial guts and do the same?
