Brooks Brothers recently launched its Spring “Generations of Style” ad and I have to say, it’s looking pretty good. While it’s not cutting edge or breaking new stylistic ground, the design team has struck a nice balance between the Jazz Age Americana of Ralph Lauren and classic elegance of British classicism.
There is a pleasing balance to the overall style, timeless classics like sport coats cut for warmer weather in silk and merino blends and lightweight Harris Tweed, traditional cricket sweaters, and elegant striped shirting with contrasting white collars. There are also a few items that take some sartorial guts to wear, like the white dress shoes that definitely do not remind one of Pat Boone and an ascot actually shown in a real world look. Neither is particularly edgy, but sometimes it’s easier to be shocking than truly classic.
There styles are by no means new to Brooks Brothers, but the overall cut and finishing of the designs have a distinctly European feel, better fitting cuts and excellent fabrics.
